Project Description
RHINOPLASTY
Rhinoplasty (commonly known as a “nose job”) is a cosmetic surgery procedure to improve the shape of the nose in order to correct life-long issues, or deformities that resulted from an injury. Rhinoplasty can also undertaken to relieve nasal obstruction or breathing problems because of the irregularities in the internal structure of the nose.
Rhinoplasty Techniques
Closed technique: All incisions are made inside the nostrils to access bone and cartilages. Although there is no external incision mark but the access is limited.
Open technique: A small external columellar incision is placed in addition to intranasal incisions to access nasal cartilages and bones. The skin is lifted, allowing greater access to perform the procedure. The advantage is a good exposure and precise modification of nasal shape.
Rhinoplasty Recovery
Patient will have a splint taped outside the nose. There usually are no packs placed inside the nose. Patient may go home the same day after surgery. The splint and sutures will be removed after 1 week. Mild swelling around the nose and slight oozing of blood is expected for few days after operation. There may be some numbness of nasal tip for few months.
Postoperative nasal care
Keep the external nasal splint dry
Normal saline nasal douches 4 times /day
Avoid nose blowing for 1 week
Avoid strenuous physical activity, glasses and rubbing of the nose for 4 weeks
Avoid nasal trauma for 3 months
The vast majority of patients are extremely satisfied with rhinoplasty procedure.
